Breast cancer (BC) commonly afflicts women worldwide, posing as one of the most widespread malignant diseases. An improved prognosis hinges on the active pursuit of better diagnostic and therapeutic methodologies. Protein kinase PKMYT1, a membrane-associated tyrosine/threonine kinase belonging to the Wee family, has been investigated in various tumor types, excluding breast cancer (BC). Bioinformatics methods, combined with local clinical samples and experimental research, were utilized in this study to explore the functional role of PKMYT1. Following a thorough analysis, it was observed that PKMYT1 expression exhibited a higher level in breast cancer (BC) tissues, particularly in patients with advanced disease, in contrast to the expression in normal breast tissue. Considering the expression of PKMYT1 alongside clinical features, it served as an independent determinant of prognosis for BC patients. The multi-omics analysis indicated that PKMYT1 expression is intricately linked to multiple oncogenic or tumor suppressor gene variants. Bulk RNA sequencing and single-cell sequencing both corroborated the upregulation of PKMYT1 in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). We address the complexities of shell color polymorphism in marine gastropods by examining its biochemical and genetic basis, its spatial and temporal distribution, and the possible evolutionary explanations.
